During the time period of 1850 – 1926, 1,2 millions of Swedes emigrated to settle in North America. There even were a few people that settled in South America.

Since January 1997, REC has been working with registration and documentation of
the total emigration from all Parishes in the Province of  -Jämtland. They are
registered in a database, -EMIBAS, created in Växjö, Sweden. Today they will
reach a number of 24 600 names. We have also registered all emigrants who left
for emigration via the port of Trondheim, Norway, (18 000 names). From those
passengerlists we can get the statements of Travel Agencies, Vessels, Date for
departure and also Destinations.  6 000 persons left via the port of Gothenburg,
Sweden. We can get information about them from a CD-record.

During the summer of 1998, we also carried through a documentation of the
homesteads that they left behind in the County of  -Ragunda, in Jämtland. There
was a number of approximately 1 000 homesteads that was left. Until today we
have documented nearly the half of them, with photos and facts about them in
tables, linked to a digital map in a database called Map Info.

REC, Ragunda Emigrant- & genealogical research Center, is a non profit
organization. You are welcome to become a member. We appreciate your interest
and look forward to hearing from you.
